Kathmandu: The Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku is experiencing a significant rise in dengue and scrub typhus cases. Hospital Director Dr. Yubanidhi Basaula reported a notable increase in infections over the past week, causing strain on bed availability. Currently, 55 patients are admitted with these infections, and the hospital sees an average of eight new cases daily.
Since mid-August, the hospital has treated 195 dengue cases, 13 scrub typhus cases, and 71 snakebite incidents. Dr. Basaula stressed the importance of timely medical intervention, as these infections can be fatal if left untreated.
The hospital, authorized to operate 100 beds, is currently managing with only 85, creating additional challenges in patient care.
